The course has theory and practical components. Our training is delivered alongside a Tutor/Barber in a commercial Barber shop environment (practical) and face to face in the classroom (theory). This is an exciting programme which includes designer cutting workshops to extend your creativity and expand your knowledge on from unit standards. This allows for assessment in authentic working conditions.

NZ CERTIFICATE IN COMMERCIAL BARBERING (LEVEL 4)
This is a 20 week study programme with Level 3 & 4 Barber skills.
We encourage parents to accompany the prospective student to the interview as the course is very comprehensive and family support is important for students’ success.
The skills include:
- Perform Barber Services & run a Barber Chair in a Commercial Shop
- Fundamentals of Wet Shaving
- Wet Shave facial hair using a cut throat razor
- Manage conversation & interactions to create a atmosphere suitable for a Barber Shop
- Health & Safety Plan
We have a fully equipped Barber shop that runs commercially for authentic assessment situations. Students nearer the end of the programme will be offered work experience if required.

WHAT YOU NEED:
Equipment list is a compulsory component of the course, includes the necessary barbering tools. This can be assisted with through course related costs at Study link.

This primarily focuses on capturing the students enthusiasum, excitement and keeps them focused on attendance & application to learning.
As the director I take it upon myself and use my contacts within the industry to source out part time jobs, or work experience within the Manawatu, and further a field if necessary, for students towards the end of the course with the objective that the salon will offer you a position (intermediate/senior) to continue your training to sit you two final industry unit standards. We have an 95% job success for students completing the programme to date. Hard working students with excellent attendance, attitude and skill will in fact get the best jobs. It’s all about attitude!
We have two Intakes per year with our Commercial Barber Course
- 29 January 2019 to 29 June 2019
- 23 July 2019 to 06 December 2019
Or Intakes can be any time throughout the year on fitting all the necessary entry requirements
The course runs from Tuesday through Friday 9.00am to 4:00pm late night Thursday till 7:30pm (compulsory)
Course holiday breaks are two weeks of the National Primary School holiday. NB: October Holidays all sites only has one week. Plus we have a 5 week Christmas and New Year break.
Students must have successfully completed Level 3 Hairdressing (Salon Support) or Level 3 Barber Skills. Cross crediting Hairdressing to Barbering will be included in course costs
