This programme is suited to learners who have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing. It builds on your existing knowledge, combining advanced theory and practical learning. You will continue working with real clients in our salon environment, developing confidence, refining your techniques, and strengthening your ability to deliver professional salon services.

All training is delivered face-to-face at BHB Academy in our purpose-built, fully equipped salon, designed to reflect a real commercial setting and provide authentic learning experiences. You will be supported by experienced tutors who are focused on helping you further develop your skills, independence, and readiness for industry.

Graduates of this programme are well prepared to work as professional stylists in a salon environment and will be fully qualified upon completion.

Please ensure you bring a laptop, iPad, or tablet (phones are not an accepted form of BYOD) BHB Academy uses Cloud Assess as your online learning system. Cloud Assess will only work on the current or first previous major release of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. Because it’s built using web standards, Cloud Assess runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser. If you don’t already have a suitable device, you will need to purchase this PRIOR to your first day of attendance at BHB Academy. Financial assistance for this can be applied for through Studylink under course-related costs. Studylink loans up to $1,000.00 for course-related costs.

Having support around you is important so we encourage parents/support people to attend this interview with you. BHB Academy may then present you with a letter of offer to pursue study in the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing Professional Stylist Level 4. You will also be sent further enrolment documentation to read through, including forms you need to fill in, sign, and return to BHB Academy as part of your enrolment requirements. These will be sent to you via email.
If you wish to withdraw from a course after payment of any monies (in full or part) you are required to do so in writing by filling in a Change of details/circumstances form Please email salina@bhbacademy.ac.nz to request this form. You are required to do this within the refund period of 8 calendar days after the course commencement. If you withdraw within 8 calendar days of the first day of the course you will be entitled to, upon return of all equipment, a full refund of all monies less a $500 administration fee. Please see BHB Enrolment Guide for further information on withdrawal/refund processes.

BHB Academy follows the Ministry of Education school term and holiday breaks. NB: Except for the October holidays where one week’s holiday is taken only (the first week). This is due to our early finish in December so as to accommodate student’s employment in salons.
Student fees will be held in a trust in compliance with section 236A of the Education Act 1989 as amended by the Education Amendment Act (No4) 1991.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be 16 years or over at the time of commencing study and have achieved The New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Any applicant whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 5.5 (with no score below 5.0) or equivalent. Enrolment is subject to approval by the directors.
  • A passion for hairdressing and the commitment to complete and your hairdressing qualification is essential.
  • You must also be able to meet all enrolment requirements as stated in the Enrolment Guide
  • You need to meet the residency requirements. For most people, this means you need to be either: a New Zealand citizen, or ordinarily resident in New Zealand and have: lived in New Zealand for at least 3 years and held a residence class visa for at least 3 years. If you don’t meet this criteria, there are other residency criteria you may meet.
  • Equipment Kit: As part of your compulsory course costs, you will be provided a hairdressing kit valued at $1,500.00. BHB Academy only supplies professional product brands for equipment kits. You can view the equipment list here.
